Flatt Lonesome garners 5 IBMA award nominations

Flatt Lonesome, a young traditional band with Florida roots, garnered five major award nominations Wednesday from the International Bluegrass Music Association.

The group, which has played in Venice at the Suncoast BBQ & Bluegrass Bash the past two years, was nominated for Entertainers of the Year, Vocal Group of the Year, Album of the Year, Song of the Year and Gospel Recorded Performance of the Year. The group was named Emerging Artist of the Year in 2014.

The group performed during the awards nominations show, which was broadcast live Wednesday morning from Sirius XM Bluegrass Junction studios in Nashville.

Sister Sadie, an all-female band featuring five-time female vocalist of the year Dale Ann Bradley, also performed live on the show that was broadcast nationwide on the satellite radio station.

After being voted on by IBMA members, the 2016 awards show will be held Sept. 29 from the Duke Energy Center in Raleigh, N.C.

Here are the major award nominations announced on Wednesday:

Entertainers of the Year: Balsam Range, Del McCoury Band, The Earls of Leicester, Flatt Lonesome, and The Gibson Brothers

Emerging Artist of the Year: Band of Ruhks, The Lonely Heartstring Band, Mountain Faith, Sister Sadie, Steve Gulley & New Pinnacle, and Town Mountain.

Instrumental Group of the Year: The Earls of Leicester, Frank Solivan & Dirty Kitchen, Punch Brothers, Sam Bush Band, and The Travelin' McCourys.

Vocal Group of the Year: Balsam Range, Doyle Lawson & Quicksilver, The Earls of Leicester, Flatt Lonesome and The Gibson Brothers.

Female Vocalist of the Year: Becky Buller, Dale Ann Bradley, Claire Lynch, Amanda Smith, and Rhonda Vincent

Male Vocalist of the Year: Shawn Camp, Del McCoury, Buddy Melton, Tim O'Brien, and Danny Paisley.

Album Of The Year: "Bridging the Tradition" - Lonesome River Band. "It's About Tyme" - Russell Moore & IIIrd Tyme Out. "Runaway Train" - Flatt Lonesome. "The Muscle Shoals Recordings" - The SteelDrivers. "Weighted Mind "- Sierra Hull. (Note: The SteelDrivers won the bluegrass Grammy award for "The Muscle Shoals Recordings.")

Song of the Year:  "Black River" - Sierra Hull. "Long Way Down" - The SteelDrivers. "Radio" - Steep Canyon Rangers. "Thunder & Lightning" - Lonesome River Band. "You're the One" - Flatt Lonesome.

2016 Hall of Fame inductees: Clarence White and Rounder Records founders Ken Irwin, Marian Leighten Levy, and Bill Nowlin.

2016 Distinguished Achievement Award Recipients: Bluegrass Unlimited magazine; Boston Bluegrass Union; Bill Emerson; Jim Rooney; SiriusXM Radio’s Bluegrass Junction.
