The Players Theatre is getting in a romantic mood for the holiday season with the 1963 musical “She Loves Me.”
Bob Trisolini directs the musical about George and Amalia, bickering co-workers at a cosmetics shop who don’t realize that they’re really in love. They’ve been developing a relationship through an exchange of anonymous letters. The story was the basis for the film’s “The Shop Around the Corner,” “In the Good Old Summertime” and “You’ve Got Mail.”
Matthew Ryder plays George opposite Michelle Anaya as Amalia, with Sue Cole, Ken Basque, AJ Cali and Peter Salefsky as their co-workers. Bob Turoff, the long-time owner of the Golden Apple Dinner Theatre, returns to the stage as the shop owner Mr. Marachek.
The musical features a score by Sheldon Harnick and Jerry Bock and such songs as “Will He Like Me,” “Dear Friend,” “Grand Knowing You” and “Vanilla Ice Cream.”
“She Loves Me” runs Dec. 2-20 at the Players Theatre, 838 N. Tamiami Trail, Sarasota. Tickets are $25, $30 for premium seating and $12 for students. For more information: 365-2494; theplayers.org
