The Applebutter Express, which are based in Tampa and perform a funky brand of ukulele-fueled bluegrass, first gained national recognition with an appearance at the mega music festival Bonnaroo in 2012 and then last year the band’s original song “Hey My Brotha” was featured on the soundtrack to the film “The Good Lie,” starring Reese Witherspoon. Don’t worry, though, the group can still be seen at Ace’s Live on Friday for a mere $5 for what should a fun homecoming show. Husband-wife front man and woman Kyle Biss (ukulele and vocals) and Shannon Biss (vocals), met while they were both working at a record store in the DeSoto Square mall about a decade ago. The Applebutter Express also includes bassist Matt DeSear, from Bradenton, and fiddler Joe Trivette, of Lakeland.

9 p.m. Friday; Aces Live, 4343 Palma Sola Blvd., Bradenton; $5; 795-3886; aceslivemusic.com
