Gecko's second annual Fear the Spear Tailgate Party is all about welcoming 'Nole nation to its restaurant off Clark Road in Sarasota. The bash celebrates the return of the college football season and the reigning national champion Florida State University Seminoles, which feature super athlete and 2013 Heisman Trophy-wining quarterback Jameis Winston. Attendees are encouraged, as if they need encouraging, to wear garnet and gold and do the "war chant" Saturday before and during the 8 p.m. season opener against the Oklahoma State Cowboys. The party starts at 4 p.m. under a huge tent with barbecue, full bar and games all night. Tickets are $10 and include a draft of Yuengling or Coors Light (for those of legal age). Inside, the family-friendly restaurant will offer its special football menu that includes daily drink specials.
