The DeSoto Seafood Fest, one of the largest festivals in Manatee County, returns this weekend for three days of food, music and family fun. Held this year in Sutton Park in Palmetto, the event kicks off on Friday with the Paper Stanley’s followed by Seven Years Past and the evenings headliner, David Allan Coe.

One of the last of the country music outlaws, Coe became an unlikely star in the 1970s and '80s writing such hits as "Would You Lay With Me (In a Field of Stone)" (recorded by Tanya Tucker) and "Take This Job and Shove It" (recorded by Johnny Paycheck). Coe is best known for his recording of "You Never Even Called Me by My Name," a true country anthem recently performed as a duet at a charity event by none other than Peyton Manning and Cole Swindell.

Saturdays the continuous live entertainment includes Hannah Jae, Matt Walden, Boss Hawg, Rebel Heart, Tim Charron, Fairfield Union, Darryl Worley and Dylan Scott. Yep, some real Nashville stars with Scott currently receiving national airplay for "Crazy Over Me" and Worley the singer of such past No. 1 country hits as "I Miss My Friend," "Have You Forgotten?" and "Awful, Beautiful Life."

Local favorite Billy Rice performs Sunday on a roster that also includes Clark Manson, Fairview Union and Halfway to Hazard. In addition to music and seafood there will be arts and crafts vendors, commercial vendors, a kids zone and truck show. Participating local seafood restaurants include Anna Maria Oyster Bar and Riverhouse Reef & Grill.
