Darwin Brewing Co., the production brewery offshoot of Sarasota brewpub Darwin's on 4th, is making a return to the Great American Beer Festival Oct. 10-12 in Denver. This is the biggest beer fest in the country, with more than 3,000 American beers being served to 49,000 attendees in the festival hall, according to the GABF. Tickets sold out in 20 minutes. The festival also has a competition, with judges evaluating more than 100 styles of beer. In 2012, 676 breweries entered more than 4,000 beers.

Darwin Brewing entered Charapa, their spiced porter, in the competition. The beer is brewed with annatto, cacao nibs, chili peppers and honey. They will also be serving several of the brewpub's beers during the main festival.

This is the second year the brewery has competed at GABF. They didn't win any medals in 2012.

Darwin Brewing won't be the only brewery representing the Sunshine State at GABF. 7venth Sun Brewing Co., Cigar City Brewing, Due South Brewing Co., Florida Beer Co., Funky Buddha Brewery and Swamp Head Brewery are also scheduled to be serving their beers on the festival floor. I imagine that most of them have entered beers in the competition, but the GABF only releases the winners' names and doesn't reveal all the contestants.
